Blast Radius Analyzer

Before modifying or deleting any Jamf object, run a Blast Radius check to see exactly what will be affected downstream.

Nexus Blast Radius Analyzer

What It Analyzes

Blast Radius maps every downstream dependency for:

  • Extension Attributes
  • Smart Groups
  • Scripts
  • Categories

Supported Reference Types

  • Computer Smart Groups → policies, profiles, patch titles that scope to them
  • Extension Attributes → smart groups, advanced searches that reference them
  • Scripts → policies that call them as pre- or post-install actions
  • Categories → all objects using that category

How to Use

  1. Open the Scope tab in the sidebar
  2. Select an object type: Smart Group, Script, EA, or Category
  3. Search for the object by name
  4. Click Analyze Blast Radius
  5. Results show all downstream references instantly

Reading Results

No dependencies found

Green checkmark — safe to delete. The object has no downstream references.

Dependencies found

A list of all objects that reference the selected item is shown, with each dependency displaying its type, name, and a direct link to open it in Jamf Pro. Review each dependency before proceeding.

Example

Deleting the Smart Group “AI-PROD Adobe Bridge 2024 EA” shows:

  • 0 downstream dependencies
  • Result: Safe to delete
Tip: Always run Blast Radius before bulk cleanup operations. Even objects that appear unused can be referenced by patch titles or advanced searches that aren't visible in normal policy views.
